Charles Sumner

Today I did a sketch of Charles Sumner. Inspired by an episode of the Dollop I listened to.
Charles Sumner was a Massachusetts senator who opposed slavery and took a beating on the floor of the United States senate for his views.
He was struck in the head with a wooden cane around 40 times by a senator from South Carolina.
It was his savage beating that polarized the government in regards to abolishion.
Truly a man more deserving of a statue than certain loser Southern Generals cough
